What? What? A New Blog Post??

October has almost passed right on by and not a peep from this blogger!  It has been crazy busy as I know you already know.  It seems when back to school time and then Fall hits, there is no time for anything, but I am determined to slow down and smell the apple cider!  (I would've said the pumpkin spice, but I can't figure out what that craze is all about - not a fan of pumpkin! GASP!!!)

Our school celebrated Red Ribbon Week all last week.  Each day, we had a special day and/or event planned.  Monday, was Wear Red Day.   Look at these little cuties all in their red!

I also found out on late Sunday into Monday that my DonorsChoose project had been funded by Sonic!  Oh happy day!  It was an even better surprise to find out that it would be delivered within days.  Gotta love DonorsChoose and Sonic!!  Plus, our 2nd grade team was chosen for a Partners in Ed field trip grant!  We were soooo excited!!

Tuesday was our World Series of Reading day.  Our fabulous media specialist always plans for all day reading contests within our school during the World Series and the SuperBowl.  She splits up the school into two teams and we read all day!  The kids have a blast and the team with the most points wins a treasure tower token!  They think that is great!!  This year, some of my sweet kiddos I had previously got to come and be buddies with some of my students this year!

We also had a door decoration contest.  One of my fabulous parents did this door for me and we came in first place!!!  Love!!!

All week long, students have been purchasing strips of duct tape to tape our principal to the wall and for a teacher to kiss a goat!  Thank goodness, I didn't win the kiss the goat contest!  I was worried for a minute that I was going to have to do that!  At least, it was a baby and not an adult goat!!!

Here's our principal stuck to the wall!

To end up our very busy spirit week, we had a masquerade dance.  Our art teacher had them create masks to wear during the dance.  Students paid for a wristband to get into the dance and then they jammed out for an hour and a half!      Look how cute they are in their masks!

Now, you can see why I've been an absent blogger!  This is just one week and I know your weeks are like this too!

Hope you have an awesome week ahead and remember to slow down and enjoy!

Till next time...

Our Week in Review AND a {{GIVEAWAY!!!}}

                                   fiveforfriday

Since getting my masters in math education, I have really tried to stretch my students' thinking in mathematics.  We did a little bit of work on algebraic thinking using growing patterns.  I chose to do a growing pattern using caterpillars made with circles.  The 1 day old caterpillar was made with 3 circles.  Two day old caterpillars was made with 4 circles.  Three day old caterpillars was made with 5 circles, etc., etc.  They had to then find out how many circles would be needed for 5 days old, 10 days old, 25 days old, 50 days old, 75 days old, and 100 days old.  It was amazing listening to their reasoning and solutions.

Our county offers Partners in Education grants every year.  They range from $300 to $1000 for various classroom projects.  This year, they added a category of field trip grants.  Our principal required us to either write an individual or grade level grant for any of the grant categories.  We decided to try for a field trip grant.  The prize patrol came around about a month ago to tell us the news that our field trip grant proposal had been approved!!  Happy Day, Happy Day!!!!  We had written the grant to go visit the Day Butterfly Center at Callaway Gardens since our science focuses heavily on life cycles.  This was an amazing field trip while we were there, however, the bus ride was not fun!  We were on the bus for a total of FOUR hours of our school day because our drivers got lost going and coming home!  They had to hold the buses for us because we late getting back!!!  I was never so glad to be back to school!!!  And, as soon as I could, I high-tailed it right outta there!!!

We have an amazing ballet/dance school here and they put on great shows.  We got to go to see their performance of The Lion King of Mali.  It was a bit weird in the beginning, but was really beautiful!!  It is very different from the Disney version, but the director said that this is the story that the Disney version is based on.  Anyway, we didn't get lost!  Thank goodness, since the auditorium is just over a few streets and I really didn't want to get back on a bus after yesterday!

And now, for great news!  I have finally hit 100 followers and because of that, I am having a giveaway!!  Classroom Friendly Supplies has agreed to giveaway one of their awesome and amazing pencil sharpeners.  I have already blogged about how much I love mine.  You can read about that HERE.  I am also giving away a $15 dollar Starbucks gift card!

For your chances to win, enter below!  Spread the word!!  It will start at MIDNIGHT TONIGHT!!

May Currently...

Wow!  I cannot believe it is time for the May Currently!  Time really does fly!

Ok, so I'm listening to The Vampire Diaries.  I love this show.  It is a guilty pleasure of mine.

I am loving that it's almost summer, BUT there is so much to do in these last few days that I would like for them to slow down...just a little.

I would really like a HUGE bowl of ice cream from Laynie Bug's Sweet Shop!  Bourbon Burnt Sugar is my favorite!  Yum!  But, I could also go for some Starbucks about now.

I really need to go to bed.  I am so tired.  My grade level won a field trip grant from our county and today was our day to go.  We went to Callaway Gardens to their butterfly conservatory.  Of course, it was horrible to get there and back.  What should take an hour 15 minutes took TWO HOURS not just going, but coming back!  We missed our first show that we were supposed to see, but we did get to see the beautiful butterflies.  But seriously, FOUR hours of bus time is a bit much!

This summer that I want some fun in the sun at the beach AND I want to do some Pinterest projects.  Don't we all?!?!

I'm looking forward to reading your Currently so hop over to link up with Farley!

Till next time...x
